Emily M. Dake

April 15, 1931 — September 7, 2016

Emily Mae Dake, daughter of the late William Melvin and Laura Mae (Sears) Phipps, was born on April 15, 1931 in Suddly, Maryland, and departed this life on September 7, 2016 in Willow Care Nursing Home in Willow Springs, Missouri. She was 85 years, 4 months, and 24 days of age.

Emily graduated from high school in Prince Frederick, Maryland. She went to work as a switch board operator in Washington DC. She met Gaylord while he was in the Marines, stationed at Quantico Base in Virginia. Gaylord proposed to her in front of the Washington Monument. They were married at Trinity United Methodist Church in Mountain Grove, Missouri on April 20, 1952. Two children were born to this union: Wayne and Patricia.

One of the most important priorities for Emily was caring for her family and home, especially while Gaylord was away serving in the Marines and Air Force. During those years, the family lived in several places including the Philippines and Northern Japan. While they were stationed in Vandenberg California, Emily worked on the Air Force Base as a manager for the bowling alley and snack bar.

Emily greatly enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren. In her spare time, Emily loved doing crafts and needlework. She especially enjoyed doing Sashiko, a Japanese style embroidery, and made a large picture to hang in their home of The Last Supper using this technique. After retirement, she and Gaylord, traveled many miles over the country in their RV, visiting new places.

Besides her parents, Emily was preceded in death by one brother: Pete Phipps; and by one sister: Mary Sears.

She is survived by her loving husband of their home: Gaylord; one son: Wayne Dake and his wife, Susie, of Mountain Grove, Missouri; one daughter: Patricia Galmiche and her husband, Bill, of Fordland, Missouri; two sisters: Alverta Johnson and Laura Howard both of Prince Frederick, Maryland; three grandchildren: Benjamin Dake, Danielle Johns, and Tiffany Bouros; three great-grandchildren: Ashely Johns, Miranda Johns, and Baylee Bouros, and by many other relatives and friends who will miss her greatly.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Willow Care Nursing Home for the loving care they gave to Emily.
