Elwyn 'Gene' Eugene Pool

Elwyn Eugene “Gene” Pool, son of the late Elwyn A. and Ethel (Archer) Pool, was born on October 28, 1927 in Texas County, Missouri, and departed this life on Thursday, August 8, 2013 in the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri, following a short illness. He was 85 years, 9 months and 10 days of age.


Gene grew up in Texas County and graduated from Cabool High School in 1946. Following graduation, Gene served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserves in 1954. Before Pauline’s passing, Gene took great care of her for seven years while she battled cancer. Mrs. Pool passed away on August 1, 2008.


Gene was united in marriage to Pauline Wanda Robinett on June 19, 1953 in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. Two children were born to this union.


Gene was employed as a foreman by Brown Shoe Company in Cabool for fifteen years, while building his dairy herd. Gene operated his dairy farm until 1990 when he retired.


Gene and Pauline enjoyed traveling in their R.V., spending winters in Arizona.


He was a longtime member of the Faith Community Church of the Nazarene in Mtn. Grove. He served in many positions in the church and enjoyed attending services and visiting with his many friends as long as his health permitted.


Gene was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.


Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister: Joetta Stickland.


He is survived by his son: Randall Pool of Cabool, Missouri; his daughter and son-in-law: Paula and Charles Shaw of Mtn. Grove; one sister: Lena Bell Duey and her husband, Eldon, of Mtn. Grove; six grandchildren: Angela Walker and her husband, Jeff, Elizabeth Hagood and her husband, J.P., Andy Pool and his wife, Susie, Gena Dixon and her husband, Matt, Kenny Shaw, and Selena Terranova; six great-grandchildren: Peyton, Rand, Addison, Lucas, Jaylee, and Maddox; nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives, friends and church family.
