Elvira Luise Slater was born on December 2, 1944 in Hengersberg, West Germany to Ludwig Schwartz and Anna Jakob and peacefully departed this life on July 5, 2014 at her home in Mountain Grove, Missouri, surrounded by family. She was 69 years, 7 months, and 3 days of age.
Elvira grew up in West Germany and met a U.S. Soldier, Joe Slater, while he was stationed in Germany. They were united in marriage on September 13, 1963 in Feldkirchen, West Germany. Four children were born to this union. After his retirement from the Army in 1981, they moved to Bendavis and then to Mountain Grove in 1986.
Elvira was proud to be a naturalized citizen of the United States. She was very actively involved in the Order of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron many times. She loved working in her yard, gardening, playing Bingo, ceramics, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Elvira is survived by her loving husband of 50 years: Joe Slater of the home; two sons: Steven Slater and wife, Cynthia, of Clarksville, Tennessee and Timothy Slater and wife, Nancy, of St. James, Missouri; two daughters: Michelle McCarthy and husband, Frank, of Bel Air, Maryland and Renee Alcorn and husband, Matt, of Willow Springs, Missouri; nine grandchildren: Darin, Joey, Jerred, Jakob, Jeffery, Keirann, Kylie, Eryn and husband, Joe, and Siara; two great-grandchildren: Allyson and Jace as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Elvira was a sweet lady with a kind spirit. She was a very loving mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
