Ellis O. Moore

April 15, 1919 — April 25, 2007

Ellis Otis Moore, son of the late William “Bill” and Ida (Carter) Moore, was born on April 15, 1919 in Wright County, Missouri and departed this life on April 25, 2007 in Mtn. Grove, Missouri at the age of 88 years and 10 days.

He was united in marriage to Mearl Hayes on July 28, 1945 in Tulare, California. He and Mearl moved back to Norwood, Missouri in 1946. Ellis was a truck driver for many years. He later went to work for Dairy Farmers of America and remained there until his retirement. Ellis truly enjoyed working on his beef farm which he and his wife purchased in 1951. Ellis was saved and baptized at an early age and was a life long member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church.

Besides his parents, Ellis was preceded in death by one sister: Lucille Roark; three brothers: Don, Gene, and David Moore; and by a grandson: Eldon Ray Moore.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 62 years, Mearl Moore; four sons: Eldon Moore and Vola, of Elkland, Missouri, Lonnie Moore and Lorna, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, David Moore of Strafford, Missouri, and Jerry Moore and Tammy of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; two daughters: Janice Goad of Springfield, Missouri and Debbie Heim and George of Lamar, Missouri; two brothers: Delmas Moore of Mtn. Grove, Missouri and Bill, Jr. of Springfield, Missouri; five sisters: Odessa Butcher, Laura Loveland, Glora Chism, and Flora Hilton of Springfield, Missouri and Freeda Hull of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; many other relatives and friends.

Ellis was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services of Ellis Moore were held Saturday. April 28, 2007, 2:00 PM in the Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. R.E. Helsley officiating. The Moore family sang “Going Home,” and “The Eastern Gate.” Ashlyn Moore sang “Remember Me.” Pallbearers were Marty Moore, Doug Moore, Casey Moore, Chad Robertson, Nathan Moore, and Gary Moore. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
