Edna Marie Jones (Hilt) was born on December 9, 1937 in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She passed away on June 29, 2016 at the age of 78 from a battle with lung cancer while resting at her daughter's home in Peoria, Arizona.
The daughter of Harold and Olive Hilt, Edna grew up at the top of a hill in the countryside south of Mountain Grove. In her youth, she attended the one-room Sunny Slope School. She graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1955.
Then Edna moved to Wichita, Kansas, got married, and gave birth to her son David in 1957. She moved west to Wilmington, California and, in 1959, had her daughter Pamela. Edna divorced her first husband and married the love of her life, Jim Jones, in 1962. Together, they raised David and Pamela in their home on Fries Avenue in Carson, California.
Edna and Jim owned and operated Eds Cafe for a while. Once that sold, Edna continued working as a waitress through her mid-seventies. She enjoyed the routine of the work, staying active, and making small talk with customers. She was well-liked and had many longtime friends.
Edna was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was once the Worthy Matron of the Wilmington, California Chapter. She enjoyed playing pinochle with family, delivering Meals on Wheels, going to the casino, reading the newspaper, watching football, and was a member of the VFW. She was a loving grandmother to Pamela's sons, Richard and Gregory, and recently became a great-grandmother when great-grandson, Charlie, was born in April.
She was preceded in death by her son: David Lanehart; her husband: Jim Jones; one brother: Joe Hilt; two brothers-in-law: Gary Haeussler and Richard Courtney; and her parents: Frank and Olive Hilt.
Edna is survived by her daughter: Pam Frederick and her husband, George, of Peoria, Arizona; two grandsons: Richard Frederick and his wife, Renae, of Peoria, Arizona, and Gregory Frederick of Brooklyn, New York; one great-grandson: Charlie Frederick; four sisters: Glenda Faye Courtney of Mountain Grove, Judy Haeussler of Phoenix, Arizona, Billie Brown and her husband, Larry, of St. Louis, Missouri, and Sandy Joyce and her husband, Johnny, of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers: Jim Brown and his wife, Uta, of Mission Viejo, California, and Harold Dean Hilt of Long Beach, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
