Dwain Virtue

October 11, 1941 — August 6, 2014

Otis Dwain Virtue, son of the late Oley and Thelma (Proe) Virtue, was born on October 11, 1941 in Mountain Grove, Missouri and passed away on August 6, 2014 in Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mountain Grove at 72 years of age.

Dwain attended Dunn School and then finished his schooling in Mountain Grove where he graduated with the class of 1959.

After graduation, he went to work for Sunny Hill Poultry in Cabool, Missouri as a truck driver. He also drove for other companies including Dodds Truck Line and Mid-American Dairy. Later, Dwain purchased his own truck and drove for Wades Truck Line and then finished his career with Consolidated Freight. Dwain was a member of the teamsters for 30 years.

In 1971, Dwain married Monty Hitchcock. They made their home in Mountain Grove. Monty passed away in 2006.

After retirement, Dwain enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his nephew, Curtis and his niece, Katie. If someone ever needed to find Dwain, the first place to look was always McDonalds. Friday nights you could find him cheering on the Mountain Grove Panthers.

Dwain was a member of Trinity Free Will Baptist Church of Cabool and enjoyed attending as long as his health permitted.

Besides his parents, Dwain was preceded in death by his wife: Monty, and his brother-in-law: Clifford Kelley.

Dwain is survived by his sister: Lois Jean Kelley; his brother: David Virtue and his wife, Kim; one nephew: Curtis Virtue and his wife, Tonya; one niece: Katie Peterson and her husband, Pete; one great-nephew: Case; four great-nieces: Kaylee, Kinlee, Raylee, and Rylee, all of Mountain Grove. Other special family members include: his God-Son: Jake Childs and his family, Pam, Garry, and Ellie, of Traverse City, MI; his God-Daughter: Jolanda Blackwell and her husband, Chris, of Mountain Grove; and Jessie Short and Jessica Goss of Mountain Grove; and many, many friends and family who will miss him greatly.


Visitation: Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM in the Chapel.

Funeral Service: Monday, August 11, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel.
