Douglas Robert Walters, son of Lee and Ruth (Halsel) Walters, was born on March 18, 1972 in Kansas City, Missouri, and departed this life on April 14, 2012 in West Memphis, Arkansas. He was 40 years and 27 days of age.
Doug grew up in Lees Summit, Missouri and Norwood, Missouri. He attended school in Norwood, as well as being home schooled. He obtained his GED when he was sixteen.
Doug was united in marriage to Laura Ratterree on June 24, 1994 in Graff, Missouri. They made their home in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Shaela McKenzie and Shane Douglas.
He was a very hard worker all his life. He originally started out by working for his dad at their sawmill. He then went to work at Harris Lumber Company. Don Harris always held a special place in his heart because Don helped him obtain his CDL and become a truck driver. Over the years, he drove for Rees (Storm) Trucking, Hanger Lumber Company and Peterson Redi-Mix. In 2009, his dream came true when he bought his own truck and leased on with Oakley Trucking. He enjoyed trucking and everything about it. He loved seeing all the sights and wonders of the world. In all, he traveled through thirty-three states and touched the hearts and lives of too many people to even count.
His main passion in life was his family and spending as much time with them while he was at home. He enjoyed going to sporting events, band concerts, choir concerts, piano recitals, and dance recitals. He was so proud of his family. In his spare time, he loved woodworking. He also enjoyed antique tractor pulls and participated in them with his Farmall H, Farmall 300, and Farmall Super M. (The Super M was his favorite!) Doug and all the Tate family loved to tease each other about who was going to be “stomped in the dirt.”
Doug attended Hopewell Church in Graff, Missouri and was a Deacon there until 2009 when the family moved their membership to First Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. He had numerous friends at both churches and he loved and enjoyed spending time with each and every one of them.
Besides his grandparents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law: Joy Ratterree. The two of them were very close. He could do no wrong in her eyes.
He is survived by his loving wife: Laura Walters of their home; his children: Shaela and Shane, of the home; his parents: Lee and Ruth Walters of Mtn. Grove; two brothers: Tony Clark and his wife, Cindy, of Shawnee, Kansas, and Brian Walters and his wife, Amy, of Springfield, Missouri; one sister: Rebecca Sue Walters of Mtn. Grove; five nieces: Kristi, Stacey, Sherri, Sarah, and Mariah; two nephews: Brian and Aaron; his father-in-law: John Ratterree and his wife, Brexine, of Mtn. Grove; two brothers-in-law: Ed Ratterree and his wife, Sherri, of Graff, Missouri and Tom Ratterree and his wife, Carol, of Mtn. Grove; a very special friend who always treated him like a member of the Tate family: Nolan Tate and his wife, Ellen, of Cabool, Missouri; and numerous other family members and hundreds of friends.
“Remember me with smiles and laughter, because that’s how I’ll remember you.”
