Dorothy Sue Coday

Dorothy Sue Coday, daughter of Warren G. and Reva June (Turner) Todd, was born November 12, 1944, in Springfield, Missouri. She departed this life on April 26, 2023, in the Autumn Oaks Care Center in Mountain Grove, Missouri, she was 78 years, 5 months, and 14 days of age.


Dorothy was raised in Wright County, Missouri, near Odin, on her family’s 225-acre dairy farm. She attended Mountain Dale, a one room schoolhouse, through the 8th grade. She then attended Hartville High School, graduating in the class of 1962.


On March 28, 1961, she was united in marriage to Joseph M. “Mike” Coday and to this union three sons and one daughter were born. Michael Gene, Joseph Andrew, Warren Russell, and Michelle Diane.


After marriage, she and her husband made their home in Springfield, MO while Mike finished up his college degree at Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State University), this is where her three sons were born. After Mike’s graduation, life took her on a journey, having lived in Indiana for a year and one half, a year in Springfield, MO, fifteen years in Jacksonville, IL where her daughter was born, another year spent in Springfield, MO, and twenty-three years in Carrollton, TX, before retiring and moving back to Hartville, MO.


She was preceded in death by her parents, son Warren Russell Coday, and her sister, Rebecca Ann Todd.


Dorothy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Mike, of the home, her children; Michael Gene Coday and wife, Carla, of McKinney, Texas, Joseph Andrew Coday, of Hartville, Missouri, and Michelle Diane Coday, of Sherman, Texas, daughter-in-law Kristi Coday of Greenville, Texas, seven grandchildren; Ariel Lynn Coday, Marissa Jean Roble and husband, Colin, Natalie Faye Montehermoso and husband, Ramon, Hunter Warren Coday and wife, Allie, Rachel Dawn Coday, Peyton Della Jones, and Kaitlyn Brielle Jones, two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Aurora Montehermoso, brother-in-law David Coday and wife, Barbara, cousins, a niece and a nephew, other relatives, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.


Besides being a devoted homemaker to both husband and family, Dorothy was president of the Women’s Aglow ministry in the state of Illinois in the 1970s and led many women’s Bible studies throughout her life.


Dorothy made her profession of faith in Jesus Christ early in life and was an active member of the local church where she lived. She was a member and attended the Hartville Freewill Baptist Church and really enjoyed attending Bible study.


In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, cooking for family and friends, and being greatly involved with teaching her granddaughters cooking skills. She delighted in telling all her grandchildren Bible stories and praying with them.


Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, a caring neighbor, and friend. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed, but the wonderful memories she created for family and friends will live on forever.
