Dorothy Stroud was born January 1, 1936, to Henry Borden and Odessa (Deaton) Borden in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and departed this life November 8, 2020, at the age of 84.
She grew up in the Mountain Grove area, graduating from Mountain Grove High School before joining the United States Air Force at the age of nineteen. While serving in the Air Force, Dorothy met and married John Wurner. Twenty-three years of marriage produced two children, Susan and Donald.
While living in California, Dorothy met R.J. "Sonny" Stroud and they married in May of 1983, in Mansfield Missouri. After several years in the Texas oil business, Sonny and Dottie moved back to the Mountain Grove area where she had grown up. They ran S & D Trucking until Sonny's death in 2015.
Dorothy became a Christian at a young age and practiced her faith by showing kindness and compassion to those she met. She was an avid animal lover and supporter of the Humane Society. Dorothy's adventurous spirit led to many extraordinary life experiences. Always athletic, Dorothy enjoyed bowling, soft ball, volley ball, boating, skiing, and all water sports as well as spending time with her beloved animals. She enjoyed life to the fullest until her recent illness. She was much loved by family and friends and will be terribly missed.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Sonny, her son, Donald, her brothers, Clyde, Melvin, and Delbert, and her sister, Helen Clary.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Wurner, grandsons, Jason, Ryan, Daniel, and Michael, sister, Judy Clark, five great-grandchildren, a large amount of extended family, and host of friends.
