Dorothy Pauline Mitchell, daughter of the late Lee McFarland and Lydia Elsie (Tetrick) Tilman, was born August 22, 1933 in Lawndale, Missouri, and went to her heavenly home on September 11, 2019 at her home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She was 86 years and 20 days of age.
Dorothy grew up and attended school in Ozark County. She was united in marriage to Johnnie Russell Mitchell on January 28, 1956 in Dora, Missouri. Four children were born to this union.
Dorothy worked many years for the Brown Shoe Company and eventually retired from there when the factory closed. She was known as a dedicated and hard working woman.
Dorothy enjoyed being outdoors, especially when working in her flower gardens. She took great pride in her flowers and was known for always having beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed feeding birds, working in the fruit orchard and fishing with Johnnie. She also liked listening to gospel music. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Mitchell, one son, Rickey Mitchell, one grandson, Jeremy Turner, two great-grandsons, Joshua Russell Turner and Jesse Shane Alan “Boyo” Turner, and one sister, Grace Riley.
Dorothy is survived by one son, Brian Mitchell of Brushy Knob, Missouri, two daughters, Carolyn Graham and husband, Billy, of Lyons, Kansas and Kathryn Turner and husband, Jerry, of Mountain Grove, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
