Dorothy Hanna

October 13, 1929 — April 1, 2017

Dorothy Ilene (Ussery) Hanna, daughter of the late Ben and Bertha (Hill) Ussery, was born October 13, 1929 in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and departed this life on April 1, 2017 in Hillsboro, Kansas. She was 87 years, 5 months, and 19 days of age.

Dorothy attended Broyles School through the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Levan J. Hanna on March 25, 1948 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. One daughter, Patricia, was born to this union.

Dorothy loved to crochet and made many dolls and beautiful afghans. She also loved playing the guitar and singing old gospel hymns. Dorothy and Levan often sang together in church.

She loved being on the go. It didnt matter if it was just to the store, to yard sales, or out to lunch, Dorothy was always ready and happy to be going. Many times she could out last those who were with her.

Dorothy was an Air Force wife until moving back to Missouri after Levan was discharged from military service. She then went to work for Wal-Mart until her health forced her to resign. One of her proudest moments was when she received a personal letter from Sam Walton.

To her grandchildren she was known as Gabby. She loved helping her grandchildren and would do anything to make sure they were happy and healthy. Gabby often said God was keeping her here a little longer to help take care of the grandkids.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years: Levan; four brothers: Earl Lawson, Kenny Ussery, Junior Ussery, and Wilbur Ussery; and one sister: Eula Ryan.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter: Patricia Cook and her husband, Wendell; one sister: Fay Loomis and her husband, Pete; four grandchildren: Darcy Harris and her husband, Jared, Shayla Henrich and her husband, Jed, Travis Cook and his wife, Audriana, and Devon Cook and his wife, Chrisy; sixteen great-grandchildren: Austin, Kaela, Taeler, Kamren, Hayden, Mackenna, Caedyn, Addilynn, Karson, Hunter, Callie, Vanessa, Matthew, Jacob, Brandon, and Caiden; and two great-great grandchildren: Zachary and Chaseton.

She will be greatly missed and was very much loved by all who knew her.
