Dorothy Dell Jennings, daughter of the late Lawrence and Eva (Wilson) Hinote, was born on February 4, 1919 in Norwood, Missouri, and went home to be with the Lord on March 10, 2012 in the Seasons Care Center in Kansas City, Missouri at 93 years of age.
Dorothy grew up and attended school in Norwood and graduated from Norwood High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Wilbur Russell Jennings on September 23, 1938 in Norwood, Missouri. Seven children were born to this union.
Dorothy was employed as the Norwood School Secretary for several years and later she worked for Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Factory in Mansfield, Missouri. She also wrote the Norwood Gleanings for the Mtn. Grove News Journal for many years.
Dorothy was a professional quilter for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed tending to flower gardens, growing a large variety of flowers each year. She also liked to do bird watching and was known as a strong supporter of the Wright County Children’s Home.
Dorothy made her profession of faith in Christ early in life. She attended the Union Grove (Caudle) Church near Norwood for many years. She also attended the Oak Forest Church south of Norwood for several years. The last few years of her life she attended the Norwood Methodist Church as long as her health permitted.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Jennings; her daughter: Vernice Porter; and by two brothers: Russell Hinote and Stanley Hinote.
She is survived by two sons: Lavoid Jennings and his wife, Pat, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; and Lyndon Jennings of Iberia, Missouri; four daughters: Gwineth Moore of Independence, Missouri, Lavonia Todd and her husband, Allen, Juanita Arnold and her husband, Bob, and Judith Schmoeger and her husband, Bill, all of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.
