Dorine (Thornhill) Peterson was born on a farm north of Mountain Grove, Missouri, on March 2, 1925, to Ada (Long) and George W. Thornhill. She departed this life February 24, 2022, at Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mountain Grove at almost 97 years of age.
Dorine graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1943. She married “P.J.” Pritchard Peterson on January 30, 1943. One son was born to this union. She was employed at Brown Shoe Company for over thirty years before retiring to voluntarily serve with “Meals On Wheels”.
Dorine loved and immensely enjoyed her children, especially her two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She faithfully taught young children’s Sunday School classes for sixty years. She attributes her longevity (96 years and 361 days) to the special relationships she had with her children and grandchildren. They greatly enriched her exemplary life.
Dorine was saved and baptized at an early age. She joined the Church of the Brethren in 1943 and for eighty years, faithfully served her Lord and Savior as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon’s wife, and active church member.
Dorine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, P.J., on August 28, 2006, an infant great-granddaughter, two brothers, and five sisters.
She is survived by her son, Ed Peterson (Bonnie), two grandchildren, Marcie Stumpff (Greg), and Deborah Gaddis (Rick), three great-grandchildren, Charlotte Yarger (Nathan), Zach Stumpff (Tiffanie), and Anthony Peterson, six great-great-grandchildren, Eden and Ember Stumpff, Gabby, Zander, Gage, and Summer Yarger, a sister, Nola Faye Atchison, two sisters-in-law, Mary Peterson and Eldora Wood, a brother-in-law, Richard Peterson (Nina), along with a large number of nieces and nephews and her church family.
