Donnasue grew up in Mountain Grove. She was united in marriage to Wilkie Cottengim on October 5, 1963, in Calerinda, Iowa. After 54 years of marriage, Wilkie preceded her in death on October, 18, 2017.
Donnasue was a hard worker who always kept busy. She milked cows and also sold Avon and Tupperware. At one time she owned and operated a cafe, a ceramics shop, and Quality Dry Cleaners.
