Donald C. Harris

Donald C. Harris, son of the late Mark and Elda (Burns) Harris, was born on November 1, 1919 in Dora, Missouri and passed away on November 14, 2010 at his home in Vanzant, Missouri at 91 years of age.


As a young man, he worked several different jobs. In 1942, he was inducted into the army. He served for 3 ½ years. He served in the 19th General Hospital and later joined the 101st Airborne. He served in four battles. He received the Presidential Citation for the Battle of the Bulge and was also awarded several other medals.


In 1950, Donald was married to Vivian Pauline Giles. Five children were born to this union: Ralph, Warren Allen, Sherry, David, and Jimmie Harris. Pauline passed away in 1972. He married Myrtle Paulsen in 1981. Myrtle had three children: Diane Stockstill, Leonard Paulsen, and Louise Olson.


Donald served as a mail carrier and Postmaster of Vanzant Post Office for 23 years. In his last years, he was called to preach the Gospel. He was the Pastor of the Willow Springs #2 Free Will Baptist Church in Vanzant, Missouri. He was also a Deacon for many years.


Donald will be greatly missed by family and friends. He always gave 100 percent of himself to everyone. He has many family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that will have many wonderful memories of him. His wife will really miss him until they are reunited again. (I love you)


Besides his parents and first wife, Donald was preceded in death by a son: Warren Allen.


He is survived by his wife of their home: Myrtle Harris; three sons: Ralph, David, and Jimmie Harris; one daughter: Sherry Harris; one step-son: Leonard Paulsen; two step-daughters: Diane Stockstill and Louise Olson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; church family, and neighbors who will sadly miss him.

Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.
Visitation:
Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the funeral home.

New Hope Cemetery
