Derald Schoneboom

September 26, 1939 — March 16, 2023

Derald Lee Schoneboom, the son of the late Hermann Henry and Della Mae (Riddle) Schoneboom, was born in LaBelle, Missouri, September 26, 1939, and passed away March 16, 2023, at his home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 83 years, 5 months, and 20 days of age.

When Derald was 9 years old, Derald and his mother and older brother moved to Salem, Oregon, to care for his Grandma Gee who had stomach cancer. Derald loved living in Missouri and greatly disliked living in Oregon.

After high school, he joined the Navy and as he put it, “saw a good part of the western world”. He rode a destroyer for a couple of years before being transferred to Guam where he met Margaret “Peggy” Jenne. They married January 31, 1961, in Los Angeles, California. Two sons were born to this union, Frank and Charlie.

Derald spent many years overseeing major highway construction California. Later, he went to work in aerospace manufacturing, working for Rohr Industries, and retired after almost 25 years.

Derald enjoyed coaching youth baseball teams while his boys were young. He mentored many young men, welcoming them into their home and being the “neighborhood bus driver” and “neighborhood dad”. He also greatly enjoyed playing golf and visiting with friends and neighbors. Derald was a hard worker and a very industrious person in all he put his mind to do.

After spending years in California, Derald and his family moved to Mountain Grove in 1993. He was happy to be back in Missouri where his brother and sister still lived. They spent several very happy years until 2018, when Margaret died of cancer. He missed her greatly and was looking forward to being reunited with her one day. His two sons took care of him and Derald loved them and Charlie’s wife, Missy, very much. They knew how much loosing Peggy hurt him but they are together again. His prayer is answered.

Derald was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Peggy.

He is survived by his two sons, Frank Schoneboom of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Charles A. Schoneboom and his wife, Melissa, of Springfield, Missouri. He will be greatly missed.
