Denisha Rebecca Calhoun went home to be with the Lord on January, 15, 2008. She was born on August 8, 1921 in Tazewell, Tennessee to Thomas and Martha (Royston) Keaton.
She was raised in Wright County, Missouri. She received the Lord as her Saviour and was a longtime member of the Happy Ridge Free Will Baptist Church and Whetstone Baptist Church in Mountain Grove.
She was a devoted wife and mother and adored children. Denisha was nurturing and selfless and her love was felt by all. “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.”
She was united in marriage to Harold A. Calhoun in August, 1941. She loved and raised five children from Pearl Keaton Calhoun; two boys: Joe of Mountain Grove, Missouri and Paul of Willard, Missouri; three daughters: Doris Richardson and Fern Moore, both of Norwood, Missouri and Faye Pearman who preceded Denisha in death.
Harold and Denisha had six children; five boys: John of Taneyville, Missouri, Lonnie of Sparta, Missouri, Ivan of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Glen of Hollywood, Florida, and Terry of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter: Becky Calhoun Cantara of Reno, Nevada.
Denisha also raised a niece: Dottie Rowland of Haywood, California. She cared for her mother-in-law: Sarah Frances Calhoun; her step-mother: Laura Keaton; her brother: Brownlow Keaton; and her husband: Harold. She was always there in times of need with a helping hand to all!
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by, her husband: Harold; her sisters: Liddie Barnard and Pearl Calhoun; and by one brother: Brownlow Keaton.
She is survived by twenty-four grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; and by her twin sister: Sarah Haigler of Oxnard, California.
She will be missed, but her love remains in the hearts of all who knew her.
Funeral services for Denisha Calhoun were held Saturday, January 19, 2008, 10:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. R.E. Helsley and Rev. Ronnie Turner officiating. Song selections were “Amazing Grace,” “Rock Of Ages,” and “What A Day That Will Be.” Pallbearers were Richard Calhoun, Mark Pearman, Sean Calhoun, Lyndall Calhoun, Clay Calhoun, Brad Smith, and Randy Calhoun. Gary Richardson served as honorary pallbearer. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
