Delmas William Moore, son of the late Bill and Ida (Carter) Moore, was born on March 19, 1921, near Mtn. Grove, Missouri, and entered into heavenly rest on November 23, 2012, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 91 years, 8 months, and 4 days.
Delmas was raised in the Mtn. Grove area and attended the Blanchard School. He was saved and baptized at a young age and was a lifelong member of the Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church. He was united in marriage to Pearl Hayes on July 28, 1945, in Tulare, California. Three children were born to this union. They made their home in the Mtn. Grove area. Delmas was employed by the Missouri Department of Transportation maintaining the highways in the Wright, Texas, and Douglas counties. He retired in 1982 after nearly 30 years of dedicated service.
Delmas had many joys in life. He liked being outdoors especially when working along side Pearl in the garden and yard. They had a large garden every year and took pride in their harvest and were always quick to share their tomatoes, corn, and strawberries. He also enjoyed raising cattle and working on the farm. He taught his family the true value of work.
One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family. He enjoyed family dinners and was sure to sample from every dish. He took great pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to play with the kids whether it was pushing them in the swing, giving them “horsey rides” on his leg, pulling them around in a wagon, playing “Annie Annie Over”, or giving them tractor rides. He also enjoyed playing dominoes but didn’t like to lose.
Delmas was dedicated to church and serving the Lord and was a blessing to many throughout his life. Delmas had a great love for gospel music and was a very good bass singer. He loved to sing the old hymns, especially those with a lot of bass lines in them. In fact, the last two nights of his life were spent with family and friends by his bedside singing praises to God. The presence of the Lord filled the room and hearts over flowed with joy. Even in his last days, the Lord used Delmas to be a blessing to those around him.
Besides his parents, Delmas was preceded in death by four brothers: David, Don, Gene, and Ellis Moore; and two sisters: Lucille Roark and Odessa Butcher.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 67 years, Pearl Moore; one son: Gary Moore and wife Karen of Mtn. Grove; two daughters: Judy Reiners and husband Tim of Mtn. Grove and Kathy Tate and husband Dwaine of Norwood; seven grandchildren: Kevin Dobson and wife Angie, Darren Tate and wife Angie, Tracy (Tate) Dennis and husband Scott, Scott Dobson and wife Sabrina, Jared Moore and wife Stephanie, Jeffrey Moore and wife Alesha, Cortney (Tate) Joines and husband Brandon ; fifteen great-grandchildren: Richmond, Austin, Zayne, Ryan, Schylar, Tate, Hayley, Sydney, Julia, Seth, Gaven, Shane, Wyatt, Kaden, and Connor; one brother: Junior Moore of Springfield; four sisters: Laura Loveland of Springfield, Freeda Hull of Mtn. Grove, Gloria Chism of Springfield, and Flora Hilton of Springfield; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
