Della Alta Dooms, daughter of the late John and Anna (Upshaw) Williams, was born on September 16, 1928 in Denlow, Missouri, and departed this life on May 27, 2014 in the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, following complications related to a stroke. She was 85 years, 8 months, and 11 days of age.
Della grew up in the Denlow Community and attended her early years of school in Denlow and high school in Mtn. Grove. She was united in marriage to Ivel Dooms on August 27, 1946 in Norwood, Missouri. Four children blessed this union: Larry, Dean, Rodney, and Vicki. Dellas family was her greatest source of pride.
In addition to doing a wonderful job of raising a family, Della was always employed outside the home. She was known as a hard worker and always enjoyed interacting with those around her. She started her employment career supporting the war effort as a welder in the Oregon shipyards. Most of her working career was spent at the Brown Shoe Company in Mtn. Grove where she enjoyed operating the cafeteria.
Earlier in life, Della attended church at Denlow and later she attended the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove.
Some of Dellas favorite hobbies were: cooking, sewing, and visiting with her many friends and family.
She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband: Ivel Dooms on December 5, 2005; four brothers: Herman Williams, Essel Williams, Evan Williams, and Versalle Williams; two sisters: Ardith Dobyns and Faye Swibyes; and by a grandson: James Dooms.
She is survived by her three sons: Larry Dooms and his wife, Vicky, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, Dean Dooms and his wife, Connie, of Fremont Hills, Missouri, and Rodney Dooms and his wife, Karen, of Morganton, North Carolina; her daughter: Vicki Lawson and her husband, Dale, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; one sister: Jessie Mae Miller and her husband, Lavern, of Willow Springs, Missouri; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Those who knew Della well will remember one of her farewell lines
