Del Charles Woods, son of the late Wesley Charles and Lois (Saladin) Woods, was born September 8, 1936, in Boise, Idaho, and departed this life August 15, 2017, at Cox Health in Springfield, Missouri. He was 80 years, 11 months, and 7 days of age.
Del’s mother, Lois, and her family were raised in the Mountain Grove area. Del spent his early years attending schools in rural Idaho. Then, during high school, his family moved to Redding, California, where he graduated from high school and helped his father in the pest control business and attended college. There, he received a teaching degree and taught elementary school students at Petaluma, California, for thirty years. He also graduated from Anderson University School of Theology in Anderson, Indiana, and became an ordained minister in the Church of God. Toward the end of his teaching career, Del began serving his church as a Lay Pastor and continued serving as an Associate Pastor at New Life Christian Church in Petaluma after he retired. For the past ten years, Del’s church home had been Life Quest Church in Springfield, Missouri.
On October 9, 1954, he was united in marriage to Alberta Eskew. One daughter, Glynda, was born to this union. They were married for 62 years before his passing.
In his spare time, Del enjoyed photography, genealogy, woodworking, watching sports on television, music, and landscaping. Del was always a cheerful and happy person. He truly lived his belief that life was exciting with God.
Del was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Gary Charles Woods.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alberta Woods, of their home in Springfield, Missouri, his daughter, Glynda Barkman and her husband, William, of Atwater, California, two brothers, William Woods and Dwight Woods both of Redding, California, two grandchildren, Christopher Barkman and his wife, Nancy, and Thomas Barkman, four great-grandchildren, Haleigh, Isabella, Elizabeth, and Christian Barkman, his aunt, Eunice Woods Willard of Idaho, his uncle, James Saladin and his wife, Thelma, of Nevada, several cousins, nieces, and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.
