Darold Coffman, son of Rass W. and Carrie (Long) Coffman, was born on June 7, 1949 in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, and departed this life on June 25, 2008 at his residence near Mtn. Grove, at 59 years and 18 days of age.Darold grew up in Wright County and graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1967 and later moved to Iowa. He was united in marriage to Kathryn “Kathy” Jo Followwill on November 8, 1968 in Buffalo, Iowa. One daughter, Tracy, was born to this union.They made their home on a dairy farm near Mtn. Grove for several years. Kathy passed away on October 17, 2004.He was an avid outdoorsman, especially when hunting and fishing. His favorite pastimes were arrowhead hunting, antiquing and spending time with his grandson, Taylor.Darold was saved as a child while attending Camp Joy in Douglas County. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law: Kevin Smith in 2006; his father: Rass Coffman; his twin brother: Harold Coffman; two brothers: Farris Coffman and Francis Coffman; and by an infant sister: Ruby. He is survived by his daughter: Tracy Smith of Mtn. Grove; his grandson: Taylor Smith of Mtn. Grove; his mother: Carrie Coffman also of Mtn. Grove; special friend: Michelle “Sissy” Callahan of Mtn. Grove; three brothers: Dean Coffman and Gean Coffman, both of Mtn. Grove and Larry “Buck” Coffman of Hartville, Missouri: five sisters: Mable Tetrick of Mtn. Grove, Dottie Perryman of Raymondville, Missouri, Donna Carlson of Mtn. Grove; Patsy Hamilton of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Darlene Bradshaw of Norwood, Missouri; numerous nieces; nephews; cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
Funeral services for Darold Coffman were held Saturday, June 28, 10:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. Zach Williams officiating. Song collections were “The Anchor Holds,” “Goodbye My Friend,” and “When I Get Where I’m Going.” Pallbearers were Heath Housley, Stuart Sullivent, Ron Hyde, Larry Baty, Lonnie Dowden, and Charlie Blackwell. Honorary pallbearers were Gary McCall, Larry Dennis, Bill Wallis, Al Dowden, Nathan Roth, Moon Lemons and Tom Blackwell. Burial was in the Friendship Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
