Connie Calhoun, daughter of Chester and Imogene “King” Bennett, was born on February 6, 1943, in Wright County, Missouri, and departed from this life on August 20, 2022, at her home in Mansfield, Missouri, at the age of 79. Connie lived her entire life in the Mansfield community where she grew up.
On July 24, 1959, Connie and Curt Calhoun were united in marriage and to this union two children were born: daughter, Rhonda and son, Matthew.
Connie was very much a people person and had a saying that everyone was beautiful in their own way. She always looked for the good in everyone she met in life. Connie dearly loved kids she encountered during more than the twenty-three years she worked in the Mansfield School system. She made many lifelong friends there. Connie dearly loved her family, always putting their needs ahead of her own. She was an excellent cook and over the years she fixed many delicious meals for her family. When everyone was sitting down eating, she never sat down because she was always up making sure everyone had what they needed. That was just who she was.
Connie loved her church family so much. She started attending the Wolf Creek Free Will Baptist Church when she was ten years old and remained a faithful member her entire life. Over the years, she held many different titles in the church. Some of her favorite memories included helping with Vacation Bible School when the kids were little. She would go around the neighborhood to pick up kids while always making sure they all had a sack lunch and if they didn’t, she made one for them. When she would see some of those kids now as grown-ups, they would tell her how those times were a special a part of their lives growing up. This always made her happy. She loved to sing in the church choir and taught Sunday school. In later years, she made sure all supplies were brought in and the menu was made up for the church dinners and made sure there was always an abundance of food. She always said our church has some of the best cooks in the world. Her family always said when God gave us Connie as a wife, mother, and Nana, he gave us the very best.
Our family would like to thank Debra Martin with Integrity Hospice for being more than just her nurse. Every time she had to leave, she always hugged her and told her she loved her and in return, Connie sure loved Deb.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Audrey, Juanita, and Joan.
She is survived by her husband, Curt Calhoun of the home; daughter, Rhonda Widhalm and husband, Duane, of Lebanon, Missouri; son, Matt Calhoun and wife, Susan, of Branson, Missouri; grandchildren, Landon Widhalm and wife, Whitney, of Lebanon, Missouri, Mikayla Widhalm and fiancé, Michael, of Springfield, Missouri, Braidy Calhoun of Springfield, Missouri, Ciera Calhoun of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, and Chandler Veit and wife, Shelby, of Nixa, Missouri; three great- grandchildren, Rylan Veit, Kambry Veit, and Finn Widhalm; sister, Debbie Van Stavern and husband, Dave, of Willard, Missouri; sister in-law, Bonnie Young and husband, Paul, of Rogersville, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many, friends.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
