Cledith Murray Raney, son of the late Floyd Foster and Dica Marie (Lathrom) Raney, was born on August 13, 1919 in Wright County, Missouri, and departed this life on December 11, 2013 in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, at 94 years of age.
Murray was raised in Wright County near Mtn. Grove and graduated from Mtn. Grove High School. He was united in marriage to Neva Novella Coday on July 18, 1942 in the Mtn. Valley Church, near Mtn. Grove, by Rev, Homer Smith. Three children were born to this union.
Murray owned and operated Raney’s Express in Mtn. Grove for over twenty years. He later became a truck driver for Gordon’s Truck Lines and lived in Memphis, Tennessee from 1967 to 1982. While employed with Gordon’s, he received a million mile plaque. He retired in 1982 and moved to Springfield before moving back to Mtn. Grove in 1990.
He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Murray was a kind person and was always helping others. He enjoyed fishing and camping with Neva.
He was a longtime member of the Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church near Mtn. Grove. He and Neva were very active in church, where he served as song leader, a deacon, Sunday School teacher and youth leader.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Neva Raney on December 15, 2001; and by two brothers: Ivan Raney and Phillip Raney.
He is survived by one daughter: Barbara Sanders and her husband, Sam, of Franklin, Tennessee; two sons: Steve Raney and his wife, Verna, of Mtn. Grove, and Gary Raney and his wife, Sherry, of Battlefield, Missouri; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives, friends, church family and neighbors.
