Cindy Jo Calton

Cindy Jo Calton, "The Purple Lady", daughter of the late Joseph and Edith Allen, was born June 14, 1946, in Tacoma, Washington, and departed this life March 10, 2022, at her home in Hartville, Missouri. She was 75 years, 8 months, and 26 days of age.

Cindy was raised and attended school in Burien, Washington. She moved to Hartville, Missouri, with the Calton family in 1964, and she graduated from Hartville High School with the class of 1965. Cindy was united in marriage to Richard Calton on July 31, 1965, in Hartville, Missouri, with Virgil Lansdown officiating. They moved back to Washington and she volunteered as a historian for Foothills Historical Society. She has spent thousands of hours as a museum volunteer, and her research created the books, Buckley, The First Forty Years, and Welcome To Burnett. She also worked at the Pierce County Library for many years until her retirement in 2009. She and Richard moved back to Hartville, Missouri in 2016, where she resided until her passing.

Richard and Cindy enjoyed traveling in their motor home and camping. Their favorite destination was Ocean Shores in Washington, where they would go every weekend that they were able to. In Washington, Cindy had horses and loved to go horseback riding. In Missouri, she loved raising different kinds of animals, especially chickens. All of her animals were pets to her, and they were not for eating. Her favorite animal was her chihuahua, Chi-Chi. Cindy absolutely loved the color purple! Everything in her life was purple that could be, including her hair, her house, and her pet rabbit! She adored her kids and grandkids, and enjoyed any time that she was able to spend with them. She also loved her Hartville community and all of her friends at First Baptist Church of Hartville.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Edith Allen, and her brother, Dennis Allen.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Calton, of their home in Hartville, Missouri, one son, Richard D. Calton, Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Mansfield, Missouri, two daughters, Nicole Calton of Hartville, Missouri, and Tashina Calton and her boyfriend, John Marlow, of Hartville, Missouri, four grandchildren, Joshua Campbell and his wife, Dahni, Daniel Calton, Jonathan Schaffer, and Alan Schaffer, two great-grandchildren, Alicia Calton and Anna Calton, and one sister, Mary Fuzzell and her husband, Clayton, of Burien, Washington, and other extended family and many friends who will miss her.
