Charles Earl Steinert, son of the late Charles Clyde and Birdie (Jones) Steinert, the oldest of four children, was born on August 1, 1925 in Norwood, Missouri and departed this life on February 19, 2010 in the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, following a long illness. He was 84 years, 6 months and 17 days of age.
Charles grew up the Norwood and Macomb areas and attended school at Macomb. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Charles at the age of 18 enlisted in the United States Navy on November 19, 1943 for a two year term. He was honorably discharged on February 6, 1945 as a Seaman Second Class after serving fourteen months, due to a typhoid illness at age 9 that caused tremors and left him too weak to carry the weight of military duties.
Charles worked in Detroit, Michigan before moving back to Missouri and then to Los Angeles, California in 1952 where he lived until 2007. When his health started failing he moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where he lived with his sister for several months before entering Autumn Oaks in Mtn. Grove.
Charles was a quiet, happy, generous person, and a loving brother who always had a smile. He made friends easily and liked to have fun. He loved old model cars.
He had a special cousin, Don Raney that he was very close to. They always kept in contact with each other. He was also very close to his mother, they were best friends. Charles made many friends along his journey of life. He was not one to find fault in anyone or anything.
He was saved at an early age at the Macomb Corinth Baptist Church in Macomb, Missouri and had rededicated his life to Christ and tried to live a Christian life. He was a generous supporter to those who spread the teachings of Christ and to those in need.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Dan Steinert; a brother-in-law: Andrew Johnston; a sister-in-law: Mae (Owens) Steinert; a great-nephew: Brian Harris; and by his step-father: Ed Boyer.
Charles is survived by one brother: Clyde “Junior” Steinert and his wife, Alberta, of Norwood, Missouri; one sister: Lucille Johnston of Kansas City, Kansas; one nephew: Walter Johnston and his wife, Jeanette, of Lees Summit, Missouri; three nieces: Patricia (Johnston) Tripp and her husband, Doug, of Keller, Texas, Diane (Steinert) Harris and her husband, Bruce, and Teresa (Steinert) Williams and her husband, Jack, all of Norwood, Missouri; several great-nieces; great-nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.

Monday, February 22, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.
