Charles Benton Parsons, Sr., son of the late Dewey R. and Esta E. (Dobbs) Parsons, was born on January 16, 1935 in Prior, Missouri, and passed away on January 5, 2007 at his home in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, following a long illness. He was 71 years of age. Charles married Anita Alice Casteel on August 28, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri. Eight children were born to this union. Following his retirement from Schutte Lumber Company in Kansas City, Missouri, he and Anita moved to Mtn. Grove, Missouri. Mrs. Parsons passed away on July 2, 2000.
Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter: Anita Fern Parsons; one grandson: Charles Parsons, III; one granddaughter: Tiffany Parsons; one great-grandson: Wyatt Coleman; and by one brother: Don Parsons.
He is survived by three sons: Charles Parsons, Jr. and wife, Glenda, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, Dale Parsons and wife, Diana, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Dewey Parsons and wife, Brenda, of Clinton, Missouri; four daughters: JoAnn Evans and husband, Jesse, of Osceola, Missouri, Modena Jones of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, Linda Gregg and husband, Jerry, of Creighton, Missouri, and Carol Calzarano and husband, Joe, of Kansas City, Missouri; twenty-six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother: John Parsons of Texas; two sisters: Mary Bennett and husband, Beau, of South Carolina and Shirley Toole and husband, Roy, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; a close friend: Ed Onstott; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Charles Parsons Sr. were held Monday, January 8, 10:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. Ronald Turner officiating. Song selections were “Wind Beneath My Wings,” and “When I Get Where I’m Going.” Pallbearers were Donny Moore, Levi Watson, Matt Parsons, Adam Parsons, Jesse Ray Evans, and Orland Mayfield. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Earl Baker and Andy Mayfield. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, MO.
