Carrie Dawn Schafer

March 5, 1960 — December 30, 2019

Carrie Dawn (Hoffarth) Schafer was born March 5, 1960, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Norman and Joan (Harris) Hoffarth, and passed away December 30, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

In 1965, their family moved to Vanzant, Missouri, where she attended grade school for eight years. They had very small classes and she had three classmates throughout school who were all special to her: Keith Coble, Becky Sullivan, and Brent Lovan. The school consolidated and they were sent to Mountain Grove where she finished the 10th grade and later graduated with her GED.

When Carrie was a child, she attended Bible School at Victory Church. After Bible School in 1974, she was baptized, along with her friends, in the North Fork River. She was a member of the 4-H Club where she learned to knit and sew, and won some awards for doing so. Growing up, Carrie enjoyed taking baton lessons, horseback riding, water skiing, car races, playing pool, cooking, and going to fairs each summer. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her cousins at her grandparent’s, Ray and Blanche Harris. Her uncle, Rudy Hoffarth, was very special to Carrie, and she spent a lot of time with him growing up. She was the first grandchild to Don and Veida Hoffarth, and she always loved the time that she could spend with them.

She was a single mother to two wonderful daughters, and she worked hard at many different jobs to provide for her family. Carrie liked to garden and enjoyed decorating as well. She loved to travel and enjoyed spending time at the river.

Carrie was preceded in death by her father, Norman Hoffarth.

She is survived by her daughters, Brandy Howell and Brittany Russell and her husband Joseph, her mother, Joan Lavon Hoffarth, her brother, Dwight Hoffarth, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one more on the way. She will always be loved and missed by her family and friends.
