Carolyn Sue Friend

Carolyn Sue Friend, daughter of the late, Richard and Irvilla (Larue) Deaton, was born on August 6, 1947 in Mountain Grove, Missouri and passed away on April 7, 2016. She was 68 years, eight months, and one day of age.

Sue grew up in the Mountain Grove and Norwood area and graduated from Norwood High School in 1965. She was the mother of four daughters: Shelley, Marilyn, Sharilyn, and Sheila. Sue married Boyd Friend on December 29, 1993, and made their home in Mountain Grove.

In her younger years, Sue was an avid softball player and spent many years coaching her girls teams. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, working in the yard, growing beautiful roses, raising a garden and canning her produce. Another favorite past time was raising dogs. Sue greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going out to eat together, and taking trips to Silver Dollar City. She worked at DFA in Cabool and retired in 2011 after 23 years of service.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Hess, on June 14, 1991, and by a great-grandson, Wyatt Forbes.

She is survived by her four daughters: Shelley Graves and husband, Harry, of Humansville, Missouri, Marilyn Hanna of Nixa, Missouri, Sharilyn Emery and husband, Brad, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Sheila Docherty and husband, Scott, of Branson, Missouri; two brothers: Ronnie Deaton and wife, Sheila, and Randy Deaton and wife, Karla, all of Mountain Grove; one sister: DeeDee Deaton of Mountain Grove; six grandchildren: Levi Forbes and wife, Stephanie, Keiautie Emery, Colten Emmerson, Whitney Barnett and husband, Patrick, Larissa Hawley, and Halle Hanna; eight great-grandchildren and one on the way; many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and other family and friends who will all miss her greatly.


Visitation: Monday, April 11, 2016 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church, Mtn. Grove.

Memorial Service: Monday, April 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church.
