Brent Benson

August 28, 1978 — February 22, 2025

Mountain Grove

Robert “Brent” Benson was born August 28, 1978, in Clovis, New Mexico, to Mike and Karen (Dugger) Benson. He departed this life, into the arms of Jesus, on February 22, 2025, following a brief battle with cancer, at the age of 46.

With the exception of a few years in New Mexico, Brent spent all of his life on the family farm in Missouri. He was a kind, loving, quiet man with an endearing ornery streak. He loved being outside and working with the cattle. He began milking on the family dairy farm with his dad when he was thirteen years old and thus began his lifelong profession.

Brent graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1997 and was quite content with his life doing the things he loved; hunting, fishing, playing sports and eating dessert. Family and friends often joked that Brent’s favorite food group was dessert and he disliked polite pieces. Large pieces of dessert became known as Brent sized pieces. He always claimed that his favorite cookies were the round ones. Watching wrestling and UFC fights was another favorite activity.

Unbeknownst to him, a UFC fight night with his friends would drastically alter life as he knew it. In July of 2009, Brent was introduced to a girl from Oklahoma named Bobbi McCray by some well-meaning friends/matchmakers. By October he asked her to be his wife at a St. Louis Cardinals game and they were united in marriage on May 29, 2010. This union was blessed with three children, Luke, McKenzie, and Bryson. Being a daddy to these precious kids became his favorite adventure.

Of all the things Brent loved, his greatest love was the Lord. Brent gave his life to Christ as a young boy. He grew and continued to serve the Lord throughout his remaining days. He was a member of the church family at Hopewell Free Will Baptist Church, most recently serving as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. One of Brent’s greatest joys was seeing two of his children give their hearts to God.

Brent was preceded in death by infant sons, Caleb Levi and Isaac Michael.

Brent is survived by his wife, Bobbi, and children, Luke, McKenzie, and Bryson of the home; his parents, Mike and Karen Benson; sister, Amanda Rhoads and husband, Josh; grandparents, Don and Naomi Dugger, all of Hartville; step-grandmother, Katherine Benson of Mountain Grove; mother-in-law, Renea McCray; brother-in-law, Bo McCray and wife, Jamie, all of Ringwood, Oklahoma, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who will dearly miss him.

The family has requested that donations be made in memory of Brent to Camp Calvary in c/o Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
