Bobby Henry Mcgowen

Bobby Henry McGowen, son of the late Orville and Florence (Ragsdale) McGowen, was born April 4, 1932, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and passed away November 26, 2019, at Cox Health in Springfield, Missouri. He was 87 years, 7 months, and 22 days of age.

Bob graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1950. He married Barbara Sutton on November 11, 1950, in Yellville, Arkansas. For the first two years of their marriage they made their home in Kansas City, Missouri. Two children were born to this union. After Bob was drafted and left for Korea, Barbara moved back to Mountain Grove. When Bob returned from the service, they remained in Mountain Grove to raise their family. Bobby bought and sold heavy equipment for many years.

Bob and Barbara loved going to Bluegrass festivals. They played instruments together and would share their music at area events and with other local musicians. They were able to meet many Nashville stars over the years. Bob loved growing a garden and would share his produce with many others every year.

Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, in 2017, one daughter, Bridgette McGowen, and by one sister, Betty James.

He is survived by one son, Brady McGowen of Mountain Grove, Missouri, one sister, Shirley Mead of Mountain Grove, Missouri, seven grandchildren, Cherell Kleinfeld, Brandon McGowen, Nichole McGowen, Devin McGowen, Breanna McGowen, Shawsha Newcomb, and Fawn Wade, seven great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
