Bobby 'Bob' Lee Owens

November 14, 1931 — January 9, 2011

Bobby “Bob” Lee Owens, son of the late Alvin N. and Lottie May (Coffman) Owens, was born on November 14, 1931 in Wright County, Missouri and departed this life on January 9, 2011 at his home near Norwood, Missouri following a long illness. He was 79 years, 1 month and 25 days of age.

Bob was united in marriage to Donna Freeland on December 25, 1954. Three children were born to this union. They raised their family on a farm near Norwood. Donna passed away on August 13, 1993.

Following his service in the United States Army in the 1950’s, he worked as a truck driver, dairy farmer and auctioneer. He had an avid love of horses. He spent many hours on trail rides with his friends and family and he also broke and trained horses in his younger years. He loved to watch old westerns, pitch horseshoes, play pool at the senior center and play games with his family and friends.

Bob took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He loved them very much and looked forward to their visits. The best legacy of all that he left for his family was his love of God.

Following the death of his wife, he married Juanita Vaughn on February 22, 1997. They had some good years before Bob’s illness started taking over and limiting his activities.

Juanita was always by his side taking care of him and encouraging him to do the tasks the doctors deemed necessary for his survival. Those that were around him have grown stronger during these last few months by his strength and his confidence in his Lord.

He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Community Church near Norwood, and enjoyed attending services as long as his health permitted.

Besides his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son: Perry in 1981; two brothers: Howard and Normal Owens; and by one sister: May Steinert.

He is survived by his loving wife: Juanita Owens of their home; two daughters: Rhonda Maharg and her husband, Joe, of Ozark, Missouri, and Suzanne Barbe and her husband, Mike, of Mtn. Grove; one son: Scott Owens of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters: Beulah Curtis of Mtn. Grove and Faye Gray and her husband, Robert, of Norwood, Missouri; a brother-in-law: Herbert Sisco and his wife, Opal, of Hollister, Missouri; seven grandchildren: Ron Gray of Branson, Missouri, Manda Wolfe of Springfield, Missouri, Brenda Laub of Stockton, Missouri, Robert Owens of Minot AFB, North Dakota, Emily Mace of Aurora, Missouri, Eric Davis of St. Genevieve, Missouri, and Elizabeth Davis of Republic, Missouri; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends who will greatly miss him.
