Billie K. Leighter

Billie Katherine Leighter, daughter of the late John and Katie (Reid) Sneed, was born on October 17, 1920 and departed this life on February 2, 2008 at St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri after a short illness. She was 87 years, 3 months, and 16 days of age.
Billie was raised in Lone Jack, Missouri and graduated from Lone Jack High School in 1937. She was married to Gordon Leighter in September 1938. Four children were born to this union. Billie enjoyed traveling and camping. She also enjoyed rock hounding and collecting Indian artifacts. At home, she loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens and she always loved to spend time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.
Besides her parents, Billie was preceded in death by two daughters: Nancy Beam and Dixie Thomas; and by two brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her loving husband of their home: Gordon Leighter; two sons: Gordon Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Independence, Missouri and Chester and his wife, Darline, of Bates City, Missouri; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Billie Leighter were held Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Perry Beam officiating. Bob Clink sang “How Great Thou Art,” and “When The Saints Go Marching In.” Pallbearers were Gordon Leighter, Gordon Leighter Jr., Gordon Lawrence Leighter, Jeffery Ray Leighter, Chester Wayne Leighter, and Jill Leighter. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Leighter, Dale Hofstetter, Jim Zumalt, and Larry Hilt. Local arrangements were under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri. Funeral were also held in the Royer Funeral Home on February 6, 2008 with burial in the Perdee Cemetery, Grain valley, Missouri. Arrangements were under the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, Missouri.
