Betty Mae Smith, daughter of the late Glen Porter and Clara Josephine (Compton) Brown, was born on March 9, 1930 in Huggins, Missouri and departed this life on August 17, 2011 in the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, following an extended illness. She was 81 years, 5 months and 8 days of age.
Betty grew up and attended school in the Number One Community in Texas County, Missouri and attended her early years of school at the Long Valley School and graduated from Houston High School in 1949. She was united in marriage to Glenn Smith on June 10, 1950 in WaKeeney, Kansas. Two children were born to this union. They made their home in Kansas for eight years before moving back to Texas County to live once again in the Number One Community.
Betty worked at a toy factory and later she was employed for Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Factory in Mansfield for twenty-two years and retired from the Brown Shoe Factory in Mtn. Grove.
She enjoyed collecting rocks, seashells, and fishing. She was also known as a wonderful gardener who enjoyed making and sharing her pickles and jelly.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Glenn Smith in July of 1990; one daughter: Glenda Moore; two brothers: Joe Brown and Jerry Brown.
Betty is survived by her daughter: Wanda Prock of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; two brothers: Roy Brown Fenton, Missouri and Glen Brown of Huggins, Missouri; one sister: Edith Frey of Huggins, Missouri; two grandchildren: Greg Prock and Jeff Moore; Chelsie Moore, Austin Moore, and Van Prock; and a host of other relatives and friends will miss her very much.

Sunday, August 21st from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM in the funeral home.
