Betty Lue Dobbs

April 8, 1942 — July 6, 2016

Betty was born on April 8, 1942 to Bert & Velma (Stilley) Mings in Wright County, Missouri, and she left her earthly vessel behind on July 6, 2016. With the death of her mother while she was still an infant, Betty and her two brothers, Ted and Terry Mings, who both preceded her in death, would be raised by their single father, Bert. She learned to cook at such an early age that she needed a wood box to stand on to reach the stove top but continued to enjoy cooking for her family all of her life.

She loved her dogs, quilting, and most of all her family. Betty worked for many years as a nurses aide at the old Mansfield Hospital and in nursing homes in the area. She had a gentle soul and always enjoyed helping others.

Betty was united in marriage to Bennie Dobbs on April 28, 1964, and to this union one son, Darren, was born. Other than for a short time in Oklahoma and five years in Louisiana, Betty lived her entire life in Missouri. She loved the Ozarks and particularly enjoyed the fall when the leaves changed.

Her final days were spent at the Country Living Assisted Living facility in Mountain Grove, which is where she called home. The family would like to make special mention of the great care provided for Betty at her home by the Country Living staff, the wonderful people of Hospice Compassus, Dr. Barbe, and the many care givers in the Mercy system that helped with her care over the last year.

Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers: Ted and Terry.

Betty is survived by her husband of 52 years: Bennie; her son: Darren Dobbs and his wife, Jayne, also of Mountain Grove; her grandson: Allen Dobbs and his wife, Shannon (Hennigh) Dobbs, of Springfield, Missouri, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends who will miss her very much.
