Bernal Eugene Kelley, son of the late Charlie and Lola (Kristie) Kelley, was born November 21, 1933, at Hartville, Missouri, and departed this life February 10, 2023, at Hartville Care Center in Hartville, Missouri. He was 89 years, 2 months, and 20 days of age.
Bernal was born and raised on the family farm near Hartville. He attended school at Hartville and graduated with the class of 1952. He married Karen Newton on June 9, 1956. Bernal joined the United States Army in 1956, and he served his country until 1958. He returned to Hartville, Missouri, and he worked as an automobile mechanic for the rest of his career. He also raised beef cattle and he farmed his family farm as long as he was able. Bernal drove a school bus for Hartville Schools on many of their out of town trips. He also transported the Vo-Tech class to Lebanon, as well as taught the auto mechanic class while there.
Bernal liked to garden, especially growing turnips and tomatoes. He also enjoyed eating beans and cornbread. Bernal loved hunting and fishing, and he thoroughly enjoyed his farm. He also loved cooking fish, and he was famous for his hushpuppies.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Kelley, his father, Charlie Kelley, his mother, Lola Hensley, one brother, Charles Kelley, Jr., two step-brothers, Bobby Hensley and Jasper Hensley.
He is survived by many friends in the community who will miss him.
