Berna Jean Kilgore

Berna Jean Kilgore, daughter of Joseph Harmon Cain and Mary Helen (Scott) Cain, was born May 6, 1951, in Sycamore, Illinois, and departed this life June 19, 2023, in her home near Mansfield, Missouri, at the age of 72 years, 1 month, and 13 days.

On July 16, 1971, she was united in marriage to Nathan Marl Kilgore and to this union six children were born. Nathan preceded her in death on January 12, 2022. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Tom Cain, and son-in-law, Peter Dannen.

Berna is survived by three daughters, Joelin (Paul) Elliott of Mansfield, Questel Dannen of Mansfield, and Chana (Cole) Kutz of Ava; three sons, Lasha (Michell) Kilgore of Ava, Orvin (Amy) Kilgore of Mountain. Grove, and Right (Jessie) Kilgore of Mansfield; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ted (Bev) Cain of Ava, Bruce (Bonnie) Cain of Sycamore, Illinois, and Baruch (Golda) Cain of Norwood; sister-in-law, Diane Cain of Tennessee; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was born in Illinois and moved with her family to Arkansas where they lived for several years before moving back to Illinois where she graduated from high school. In the late 60’s the family moved to Missouri where she met Nathan and lived the rest of her life near Mansfield.

She was the morning cook for the school children for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and feeding hummingbirds. She loved her family and the Lord.

Berna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and a caring neighbor. We celebrate her life and have many special memories with her that we will always cherish.
