Avis Garner

May 28, 1928 — December 1, 2023

Avis Bonell (Robertson) Garner, daughter of Oren Burvell and Lena Faye (Martin) Robertson, born May 28, 1928, in Hartville, Missouri, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 1, 2023.

Avis was the second child born out of 8 children. She attended the Luallin School in Grovespring, Missouri where, along with her oldest brother Ellis, she walked through fields, climbed fences, and kept an ever-watchful eye on neighboring dogs along the way.

Avis was united in marriage on September 6, 1949, to George Garner, and to this union 3 daughters and 4 sons were born.

Avis loved working outdoors taking care of the farm animals, raising a big garden, canning, and growing many pretty flowers. She loved going to garage sales, crocheting intricate doilies, embroidery and making quilts. Avis also loved going to the Starvy Creek Bluegrass Festival in Conway, Missouri, where she made many cherished friends.

Avis loved people and was always willing to help in any way she could. She was a member of Elk Creek Baptist Church where she had many friends and family members that also attended.

Avis was preceded in death by her parents, Oren and Faye Robertson, her husband, George Garner, two brothers, Gerald and Dale Robertson, one grandson, Aaron Sharp, two great-granddaughters, Cassidy Sharp and Emylee Anglen.

Avis is survived by 3 daughters, Shirley (Donald) Sharp of Hartville, Missouri, Connie (David) Forrester of Ozark, Missouri, and Deanna (Pat) Schurman of Lebanon, Missouri, 4 sons, Lynn Garner of Grovespring, Missouri, Keith Garner of Lebanon, Missouri, Kenny Garner of Grovespring, Missouri, and Rob Garner of Marshfield, Missouri, 11 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Ferrell Jordan of Marshfield, Missouri, and 5 brothers, Ellis Robertson of Grovespring, Missouri, Loman Robertson of Lebanon, Missouri, Lloyd Robertson of Waynesville, Missouri, Newell Robertson of Hartville, Missouri, and a host of friends and family members who were very dear to her.

Avis will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her for her sound advice, her compassion, and her desire to help people who were struggling and in need of a helping hand.
