Avis Darlene (May) Bungard

October 13, 1939 — June 1, 2013

Avis Darlene Bungard, was born on October 13, 1939 in Shawnee, Wyoming, the only child of Vernon D. and Agnes Alma (Crosley) May. They lived in Converse County Wyoming and then settled down in Holyoke, Colorado, where she graduated from high school.
While living and working in Burlington, Colorado, she met the man of her dreams, Alan L. Bungard, who later became her husband of 44 years.
They were married on September 4, 1958, in Rapid City, South Dakota. A short time later, they moved to Southern California, where Alan worked at an ice cream factory and in the service station industry. Avis was a stay at home mom and homemaker.
Five children were born to this union, one son: Doyle, and four daughters: Joy, Kathy, Kim and Jana.
In 1971, they packed up the family and moved south of Norwood, Missouri, to help run a dairy farm and Alan was employed as an over-the-road truck driver. After the dairy farm was sold, the family moved to Macomb, Missouri, where they made their home for several years. Avis and Alan later lived in Mtn. Grove for a short time.
Avis was an avid animal lover and always had several dogs and cats and an occasional bird. She also loved to watch old westerns, read, and watch hummingbirds feeding at her feeders. She also liked to take trips to Wyoming to visit with her close family that she loved very much and stayed in touch with over the years.
She was also a history buff, especially family history and would love to tell the stories about growing up on the Indian Reservations. She also grew up with her cousins on Wyoming ranches of her grandparents.
She became a Christian at a young age and was a charter member of the Church of the Nazarene in Norwood. She served on the church board, taught Sunday school and was very active in Vacation Bible School for many years. She was always a favorite to read the story of Christ's birth out loud at Christmas time.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Alan Lyle Bungard on April 8, 2002.
Survivors include her son: Doyle Bungard and his wife, Vonda Kay (Parmenter), of Norwood, Missouri; her daughters: Joy Freter and her husband, Mike, of Skiatook, Oklahoma; and their sons, Gibson, Zane and Zebulun, Kathlene Hutton and her husband, David, of Lebanon, Missouri and their children, Graham Hutton and his wife, Liz, and their daughter, Lydia, Chelsea Chapman and her husband, SPC Brandon Chapman, and their son Deklan and a baby on the way, Kim Bungard Powell of Dadeville, Missouri and her children, Branden and Deah, Jana Bungard and her companion, Chris Farthing, and her daughter, Alana Sympson; her extended family in Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, and Washington.
Avis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be truly missed by her family, friends and a host of other relatives.
