Arthur Lee Griffin, son of the late Lee Roy and Alice (Kimball) Griffin, was born on October 21, 1924 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and departed this life on April 5, 2017 at Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 92 years, 5 months, and 15 days of age.
Arthur grew up in Ozark and Douglas counties, attending school in Gainesville, Mansfield, and graduated from Ava High School in 1943.
He was united in marriage to Freda Hicks on September 13, 1947 in Ava, Douglas County, Missouri. Five children were born to this union: Pam, Larry, Debbie, Billy, and Gina.
Arthur was employed as a foreman at the Brown Shoe Company in Mountain Grove for several years. Most of his career (43 years) was spent as owner and operator of Griffin Service Station in Mountain Grove, Missouri.
Arthur will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and playing pool (in his younger days). He loved studying God's Word and sharing it with others. Art was saved as a young man and his faith was very important to him. He served as an elder at the Church of Christ in Mountain Grove for several years, and continued to attend as a member as long as his health permitted.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Griffin, and four brothers, Billy Griffin, Mearl Griffin, Dale Griffin, and Don Griffin.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Freda Griffin, of the home; his three daughters: Pam Canton (Dwayne) of Broken Arrow, OK; Debbie Kuster (Gary) of Mountain Grove, and Gina Gunnels (Jim) of Mountain Grove; and one son, Billy Griffin of Mountain Grove; eleven grandchildren: Shellye Jaggers, Douglas Canton, Preston Griffin, Nathan Griffin, Brandon Friend, Mitch Friend, Katelyn Evetts, Megan Griffin, Allison Griffin, Candice Yazell, and Erica Gunnels; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
Arthur leaves behind a wonderful legacy for his family and all who knew him.
