Anita Claire Buchanan

Anita Claire (Henley) Buchanan, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, peacefully passed away on April 1st, 2024, in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of 83 years, 6 months, and 5 days of age.

Born on September 27th, 1940, in Augusta, Illinois, to Bert and Marie (Law) Henley, Anita attended Colona Grade School and United Township High School in East Moline, Illinois. 

At the young age of 11, she met the love of her life, Delbert Buchanan, whom she married at 16 in 1956. In this union they had their two daughters, Glenda Lue Buchanan and Peggy Sue Buchanan. 

The couple moved to Seymour, Missouri, in 1963, and in 1969, they acquired the family farm where Anita dedicated herself to homemaking, raising their two daughters, and assisting on the farm. Anita's life was filled with simple joys such as gardening, horseback riding with Delbert and their grandchildren, crafting, spending time with her dog Kate and watching Westerns and Andy Griffith. She was a woman of faith, finding solace in attending church when possible. 

Preceding her in death were her parents, Bert and Marie (Law) Henley, her husband, Delbert Buchanan, and her daughter, Glenda Buchanan. 

She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Buchanan of Seymour, her brother, Jim Henley of Costa Rica, and her sister, Lorena and Bob McFarland of Arizona. She also leaves behind her grandsons, Heath Hannaford of Springfield, Missouri, Doug and Chandra Calhoun of Strafford, Missouri, and Chad Hannaford, and her granddaughter, Cheryl and James Watson of Strafford, Missouri. Anita was adored by her 11 great-grandchildren: Brandon, Valerie, Clayton, Hayden, Ashly, Preston, Landon, Bailey, Daniel, Samantha, and Lexi Jo. 

Anita's warmth, love, and presence will be deeply missed by her family.
