Alvin Clint Merchant, son of the late Oscar Eugene and Doshia (Fletcher) Merchant, was born on August 3, 1925 in Astoria, Missouri and departed this life on August 30, 2011 in the St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri, following a short illness. He was 86 years, and 27 days of age.
Alvin grew up and attended school in the Graff Community. He was united in marriage to Jaxie McGowan on November 25, 1947 at Brushy Knob in Texas County. Two children were born to this union.
Before owning and operating his own dairy farm and retiring in 1990, Alvin hauled milk in cans for several years. Alvin also worked as a logger for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors, going on trail rides, and coon hunting. He also liked to square dance.
Alvin was a long time member of the Union Chapel Church and enjoyed attending as long as his health permitted.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Myrtle Neal, Pearl Massey and Pauline Nash.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost sixty-four years: Jaxie Merchant of their home; one son: Stacy Merchant and his wife, Virginia, of Mtn. Grove; one daughter: Charlotte Lands and her husband, Dennis, of Cabool, Missouri; five grandchildren: Kristen, Clint, Adam, Jared and Kory; four great-grandchildren: Kailyn, Mekenna, Ambrea, and Sophia; a nephew who was raised like a brother: Willard Worsham and his wife, Donna, of Grovespring, Missouri; and other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
