Alva Barbara Maddox, 90, of Seymour, Missouri, passed away October 1, 2022.
On May 29, 1932, Alva was born to Sam and Helen Koop in Corn, Oklahoma.
On September 10, 1946, Alva married Billy Joe Maddox in Wheeler, Texas. After the couple married, they started working and became young entrepreneurs owning a laundromat and lumberyard. Later, they settled in Seymour, Missouri, where they became dairy farmers for many years, finally selling the farm in 1993. During their working years, they spent time in northwest Oklahoma and Southwest Missouri.
Alva was preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, and 13 siblings. Alva is survived by one son, Jim Maddox and wife, Cathy, of Kimberling City, Missouri; two grandsons, Bryan Gillmore and wife, Jennifer, of Springfield, Missouri, Kyle Maddox and wife, Cheryl, of Nixa, Missouri; and one great-grandson, Zane Maddox.
Alva was a loving mother and grandmother. She attended every basketball and baseball game her son, Jim, ever had. She loved visiting casinos, and boy, it seemed like she always had a lucky streak… or maybe she just knew how to play the game. HA! Alva was a great cook, one of her specialties the family loved was a German stuffed roll dish called Bierocks. She loved music; she always requested Jim and Kyle sing her a song, usually "Ghost Riders In The Sky" and "Tennessee Stud." When Alva’s grandson, Kyle, was little, she took him everywhere with her and they enjoyed going to garage sales and finding “treasures.” When Kyle was in middle/high school, she spent time with him to make sure he stayed out of trouble while his parents were working. Her family can’t thank her enough for everything she’s done!
