Albert Riley Wright

May 28, 1917 — October 29, 2007

Albert Riley Wright, son of the late Mahlon and Bessie (Sparks) Wright, was born on May 28, 1917 in Dawson, Missouri, and departed this life on October 29, 2007 at his niece’s home in Macomb, Missouri, following a short illness. He was 90 years, 5 months and 1 day of age.
Albert grew up in the Dawson Community and served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He entered the service on March 15, 1941 as a radar repairman. He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant during his four years, which he was very proud of. During his time in the service he received three distinguished awards: American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on November 19, 1945.
Albert felt his greatest accomplishment was his time served during the war. It brought him great pride to tell stories and details of Army life to his friends and family.
Following his discharge, Albert returned to the family farm in Dawson where he was a devoted son and brother. While caring for his mother and sister, Ruth, he worked as a carpenter in the Carpenter’s Union in Springfield, Missouri. After a tragic fall at a work site in the early 1960’s, Albert retired to his farm on the Gasconade River in Wright County, Missouri.
He enjoyed working alongside his mother and sister in the milk barn, garden, and yard. After the death of their mother, they continued to farm until 1987, when they sold their farm and moved to Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
During the last several years, Albert developed another love; Las Vegas. He took numerous trips there and also to Tunica, Mississippi. He enjoyed his trips greatly and continued to look forward to the next one.
During his last days, Albert told his niece, Teresa that he had made peace with God and was ready to die.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant brothers: George and Charles; three brothers: Chester, James, and Robert; and by two sisters: Daisy and Ruth.
Albert is survived by thirteen nieces and nephews and their families and his many friends who will miss him very much.
