Agnes Ellen Fredrickson

February 20, 1920 — July 1, 2017

Agnes Ellen Fredrickson, daughter of the late Don and Elizabeth (Abbuhl) Boardman, was born February 20, 1920 in Rome, New York, and passed away July 1, 2017 in Mountain Grove, Missouri, at the age of 97 years.

Agnes was raised and attended school in the Rome area, and graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She was united in marriage on December 20, 1943, to Charles Matthew Fredrickson who was born and raised on a farm in Concordia, Kansas.

During World War II, Charles worked in a Rome factory where he compounded neoprene insulation used for field wire which connected phones used by American troops to prevent message interception by the enemy. German U boats had been torpedoing his factory’s supply of natural rubber from Indonesia.

Agnes and Charles had two daughters, Erica and Christina, who were raised in Ohio, Tennessee, and Missouri.

Agnes studied early childhood development and taught under the Lanham Act in St. Louis, and also at Grace Hill Settlement House there. Later, she taught Head Start in Tennessee. After Charles’ death in 1979, she taught Montessori preschool in the Kansas City area until the age of 75.

Agnes then moved to Norwood, Missouri to be near her daughter, Erica’s, family. She enjoyed tending her vegetable and flower gardens, making preserves, collecting crocheted and knitted afghans, reading, and listening to news casts.

Agnes was saved when she was 27 years old, and each time the family moved, she was thankful for the opportunity to meet devoted Christians who loved our Lord Jesus for giving His life’s blood on a cruel cross to pay for our sin debt. It was Agnes’ faith in the love of Christ that led her to support international missions and the distribution of Bibles worldwide.

Besides her parents and husband, Agnes was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Andrea Holland, and three brothers, Don, Alfred, and Crager Boardman.

She is survived by her daughters, Erica Holland and husband, Bruce, and Christina Golden, and grandsons, David and Steven Holland.

Most of this obituary was written 4 years ago by Agnes, herself, in anticipation of her departure to her Heavenly Home.

In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to the Pregnancy Resource Center of Mountain Grove in care of the funeral home.
