Ruby Lee (Haggard) Baney, daughter of the late Harvey and Elizabeth (Shelley) Haggard, was born on August 31, 1923 in Texas County, Missouri, and departed this life on October 24, 2010 in the Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool, Missouri, following a long illness. She was 87 years, 1 month and 24 days of age at the time of her passing.
Ruby grew up and attended school in Texas County and was united in marriage to Sterlin Baney on November 16, 1939 in Houston, Missouri. This marriage was blessed with three children, Kenney, Shirley and Margie.
Ruby was saved at an early age and in her younger years she walked to church and played the organ. She instilled both Christian values and a hard work ethic in her children. In the summer, Ruby, Sterlin and the children would travel to Oregon and Washington where Ruby worked as a supervisor for food processing plants. In the fall, they would return to Missouri where she continued to work hard to provide for their children. She worked as a caregiver at both the Texas County Hospital and the Kabul Nursing Home. When Ruby and Sterlin quit traveling to Oregon they made their home first in Bendavis and later in Mtn. Grove where she resided until ill health caused her to move to the nursing home.
Ruby loved to sew and also do other crafts, especially ceramics. Ruby also loved both hearing and telling a good joke. This sense of humor stayed with her even during her stay at the nursing home. She would often share a joke with the nurses.
Ruby was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family and visiting with her many friends and neighbors. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Besides her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years: Sterlin Baney; her brother: Ethmer Haggard; a son: Kenney “Dicky” Baney; a great-granddaughter: Carleigh Williams; and a son-in-law: Mancil Smith.
Ruby is survived by her two daughters: Shirley Smith of Mtn. Grove, and Margie and John Cook of Cabool, Missouri; seven grandchildren: Andrea, Doug, Darin, Steven, Greg, Arla and Darla; seventeen great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
