Edith Lorene Gourley, daughter of the late Hershel Elmer and Mary Bell (Long) Workman, was born September 10, 1921 in Vera Cruz, Missouri and passed away September 15, 2010 in the Windsor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Windsor, Missouri. She was 89 years, and 5 days of age.
Edith grew up in Douglas County and graduated from Mountain Grove High School. She was saved and baptized at an early age. Edith married George Gourley on February 26, 1940. Seven children were born to this union. She spent her life being a homemaker and taking care of her family. Edith had a green thumb and enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed canning and was an excellent cook. Edith was one of those special people who are always willing to help others.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons: Robert, Gary, and Tom; three daughters: Carolyn, Glenda, and Eva; four brothers; one sister; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by one daughter: Neva Lavelle Moritz and her husband, Frances, of Windsor, Missouri; one sister: Ola Bushfield of South Dakota; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She will be missed by all those that knew and loved her.
